How to Stay Safe

Water parks nationwide are popular destinations for individuals seeking relief from the summer heat. While the array of water attractions, refreshing sprays, waves, and thrilling rides offer immense enjoyment, prioritizing safety which is crucial during your visit. Before embarking on your trip to the water park, take a moment to review our list of 10 essential safety tips.

Clothes for the day

Prepare for the day ahead by dressing suitably for prolonged outdoor exposure to avoid sunburn, heat stroke, or dehydration. Ensure you wear water shoes, a hat, and a loose-fitting t-shirt for breaks from water activities, along with sunglasses for eye protection. Keep a vigilant watch over younger children and manage their sun exposure duration carefully.

Use sunscreen

Apply sunscreen generously at least 30 minutes before arriving at the park, opting for a waterproof formula. Remember to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially after being in the water or drying off with a towel between applications. Additionally, the EMA advises using lip balm with SPF 15 or higher to protect your lips from the sun’s rays.

Keep your body hydrated

Maintain proper hydration levels as extended sun exposure and water activities can lead to rapid dehydration. Opt for water over caffeinated sodas or beverages containing artificial sweeteners, as these can exacerbate dehydration. Since you’ll likely sweat more than usual in the heat, you’ll need to consume more water than usual to replenish lost fluids.

Supervise your children closely

Monitor your children closely while at the waterpark. Even with lifeguards present, it’s essential to keep track of your kids yourself. Always supervise your children or accompany them in the water. Lifeguards are tasked with overseeing expansive areas and may overlook incidents. Moreover, their role is not to babysit children but to intervene in emergencies, which should be avoided whenever possible.

Utilize a life vest

Based on a survey conducted by the American Red Cross, 30 percent of parents believe floaties can replace supervision. Regardless of your children’s age, it’s crucial to have them wear a life vest and ensure adult supervision at all times.

Familiarize yourself with the rules

Every water park has its own set of regulations, thus it’s essential to carefully read all posted signs before allowing your children to partake in the activities. Waterparks offer various features and slides designed for different age groups. Take time to review all safety guidelines concerning height, age, swimming proficiency, and health conditions. It’s important to adhere to these rules and don’t hesitate to ask lifeguards or staff if you have any inquiries.

Avoid running near the pool

Although excitement may be high, it’s crucial to refrain from running around the park for everyone’s safety. Running on slippery surfaces such as decks or sidewalks can pose significant risks. Prevent potential injuries such as cuts or broken bones by opting to walk instead of run while in the park.

Conclusion

In conclusion, when visiting our Waterpark in Chania or any waterpark, safety should always be a top priority. Familiarize yourself with the park’s rules, supervise young children closely, and ensure everyone knows how to swim. Additionally, remember to stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, and avoid running near the pool to prevent accidents. By following these safety guidelines, you can ensure a fun and enjoyable experience for the whole family at our waterpark in Chania.
